Books & Stories

Books & Stories

Books have always been one of the places I make sense of life.

Some of my work is fiction.

Some is nonfiction.

Some grew out of radio.

Some grew out of grief, health, resilience, leadership, faith, and the long process of learning how to listen to what life is trying to teach us.

But all of it belongs in the same larger conversation.

These books are part of The Courtyard — a place where stories, broadcasting, psychology, leadership, music, memory, fear, resilience, and human experience have room to sit together.

Whether you are here for a thriller, a leadership book, a daily reflection, or something to help you through a difficult season, this is where the written work begins.

Fiction

Dead Air: The Day the Music Died — Kelly Orchard

Dead Air

Dead Air: The Day the Music Died

What happens when the signal goes dark?

Dead Air: The Day the Music Died is a radio-rooted thriller about fear, leadership, pressure, and what happens when everything people depend on begins to break.

Set inside the high-stakes world of broadcasting, the story follows the people behind the microphones, transmitters, control rooms, and executive decisions as they are forced to respond to a crisis that threatens far more than the airwaves.

It is fiction.

But the emotional pressure is real.

The book explores radio culture, human behavior, fear, resilience, loyalty, leadership, and the choices people make when the systems around them start to fail.

The Radio and Records Café

The Radio and Records Café

The Radio and Records Café is my long-term fiction project and passion work.

It is still being written.

This story world is rooted in radio culture, music, memory, relationships, reinvention, and the emotional lives of people whose paths keep finding their way back to one shared place.

The Courtyard is one of the first pieces of that world I am sharing because it carries the feeling of the entire project.

There is music.

There is a stage.

There are conversations.

There are people arriving with things they do not always say out loud.

The Radio and Records Café is planned as a trilogy, unfolding across multiple books, perspectives, timelines, and emotional arcs.

The story is still taking shape, and I'll be sharing parts of the journey through The Courtyard.

Leadership & Broadcasting

Flipping the Format on the Fear of Failure — Kelly Orchard

Flipping the Format

Flipping the Format on the Fear of Failure

Flipping the Format on the Fear of Failure was written for broadcasters and professionals navigating fear, resilience, leadership, identity, culture, and change.

Fear does not always look like fear.

Sometimes it shows up as hesitation.

Over-control.

Avoidance.

Defensiveness.

Perfectionism.

Burnout.

Resistance.

Disconnection.

Or the quiet belief that if we admit we are afraid, we have somehow failed.

This book offers a grounded way to understand fear, build resilience, strengthen self-awareness, and lead with more clarity inside high-pressure environments.

It is especially connected to my work with broadcasters because radio people know how to keep going.

But knowing how to keep going is not the same as knowing how to recover.

Personal Growth & Reflection

Heart Lessons — Kelly Orchard

Heart Lessons

Heart Lessons

Heart Lessons came from a season when life forced me to slow down, listen, surrender, and rebuild.

After a serious health crisis disrupted my life, I began writing through the lessons I was learning about resilience, grief, faith, surrender, healing, patience, discipline, and the difficult work of letting life reshape what I thought success was supposed to look like.

This book remains one of the clearest expressions of the emotional thread that still runs through everything I create.

For this season, I am offering Heart Lessons as a free PDF for readers who want a deeper introduction to my work.

Kelly Orchard's Apple A Day

Kelly Orchard's Apple A Day

Kelly Orchard's Apple A Day is a collection of daily reflections for personal growth, resilience, wisdom, encouragement, and grounded self-awareness.

The Apple A Day work continues through Daily Nourishment, Licensed2BBadass, and future updates to the books.

This body of work is connected to the part of the ecosystem that helps people pause, reflect, regulate, and return to themselves one small practice at a time.

The Apple A Day books will be updated more fully in a later phase, including new covers, ISBNs, and expanded distribution plans. For now, you can explore the existing editions and follow the Daily Nourishment work through Licensed2BBadass and The Courtyard.

How the Books Connect

How the Books Connect

The books may live on different shelves, but they come from the same deeper conversation.

Fear.

Resilience.

Radio.

Story.

Grief.

Leadership.

Identity.

Reinvention.

Faith.

Music.

Memory.

Human connection.

Some of those themes appear through fictional characters under pressure.

Some appear through leadership frameworks.

Some appear through personal reflection.

Some appear through daily nourishment.

The form changes.

The emotional center remains the same.

That is why the books belong inside The Courtyard.

Direct Sales Note

Direct Sales Note

For now, books are linked through Amazon and current retail channels.

Direct sales through the website will come later as part of a future Shopify phase. That may eventually include signed copies, bundles, special editions, updated Apple A Day books, and reader packages.

For now, the goal is simple:

Explore the books.

Find the right place to begin.

And if something resonates, stay connected.

Books give us a place to put what we are still trying to understand.

Sometimes through fiction.

Sometimes through reflection.

Sometimes through leadership.

Sometimes through one small daily thought that helps us see the day differently.

However you arrived here, I hope you find a book, a character, a sentence, or a conversation that meets you where you are.
