The Radio and Records Café — The Courtyard, Kelly Orchard's creative ecosystem

Kelly Orchard

Leadership and Culture Strategist for Broadcasters

Author  •  Psychotherapist  •  Second-Generation Radio Veteran

Welcome to The Courtyard.

This is where story, radio, resilience, leadership, creativity, and real conversations come together.

I grew up in radio.

Not around it. Inside it.

Before my family ever built stations of our own, my dad, Ken Orchard, spent 21 years as an engineer at KHJ in Los Angeles during the Boss Radio era.

Radio was not something we simply consumed in my family.

It was something we built.

That shaped how I understand story, timing, music, pressure, community, creativity, and connection.

Over time, my work expanded into psychology, writing, leadership, resilience, grief, reinvention, and emotional regulation.

But radio never really left.

It became part of how I listen, how I write, how I teach, and how I understand people under pressure.

Invite Kelly to Speak

The Courtyard

The Courtyard is where the conversations happen.

It began inside the world of The Radio and Records Café, the fiction project I am building now. Over time, it became more than a setting. It became the emotional center of the work.

In the story world, The Courtyard is connected to the café, the music, the radio station, and the people whose lives keep crossing there.

Outside the fiction, it became the place where the larger body of my work belongs.

Books.

Broadcasting.

Leadership.

Resilience.

Psychology.

Music.

Memory.

Creativity.

Grief.

Reinvention.

Conversation.

Many doors. Same Courtyard.

The Courtyard

A place where stories, healing, and leadership meet.

The Courtyard is the emotional and creative ecosystem at the center of everything Kelly does. It is where her books, her broadcasting leadership work, Licensed2BBadass, her speaking, and her fiction universe all live and breathe together.

It is not just a brand idea. It is a gathering place. Pull up a chair.

Books & Stories

My books move between fiction, leadership, resilience, radio culture, grief, faith, fear, and personal growth.

Different shelves.

Same deeper conversation.

Broadcasting & Leadership

Broadcasting is not just a business.

For the people who stay in it, it becomes identity, rhythm, pressure, community, creativity, responsibility, and sometimes exhaustion.

Radio people know how to keep going.

They know how to show up when the transmitter fails, when the ratings drop, when the staff shrinks, when the format changes, and when nobody outside the building understands what it took to keep the station on the air.

My work with broadcasters focuses on leadership, culture, fear, resilience, communication, emotional regulation, burnout, identity, and the human side of change.

I speak radio fluently.

And I care about the people behind the microphones, transmitters, sales calls, programming decisions, and leadership pressure.

Licensed2BBadass

Licensed2BBadass

Licensed2BBadass is the personal growth and mental fitness side of The Courtyard.

It was created for people who are tired of being told to “just be confident” without being given tools to understand what fear, stress, self-doubt, and emotional overload are actually doing inside them.

At the heart of it is the B.A.D.A.S.S. framework:

B.

Be bold. Be brave. Be confident. Be yourself.

A.

Attitude is everything.

D.

Decide to grow and succeed.

A.

Awareness is key.

S.

Steadfastly stay the course.

S.

Success is yours.

This work is not about pretending everything is fine.

It is not about becoming fearless.

It is about awareness, attitude adjustment, emotional regulation, resilience, courage, confidence, and learning how to move forward without losing yourself in the process.

Speaking & Media

Speaking & Media

I speak, teach, consult, and join conversations around leadership, culture, fear, resilience, emotional regulation, broadcasting identity, creativity, grief, reinvention, and the work of staying human under pressure.

My work is especially aligned with broadcasters, media professionals, leadership teams, creative audiences, podcast conversations, and organizations ready for honest, useful conversations that go deeper than performance and surface-level motivation.

There are many doors into The Courtyard.

You may have arrived through radio, a book, a story, a workshop, a podcast, or a season of your own life that asked you to slow down and listen.

However you arrived, you are welcome here.

This is a place for honest conversations about fear, resilience, creativity, leadership, broadcasting, grief, growth, and the work it takes to remain human while life keeps changing.
